JAVA NOTES 2008 CONCERT SERIES

Java Notes is a new concert series of professional folk musicians from around the country. Concerts will be performed in a coffeehouse atmosphere. Funds raised from each concert are used to help people in need through local nonprofit agencies.

Performances will be held at 8:00 p.m. and usually on the second Saturday of the month (please check dates), January through May, and then September through November at the Sun Prairie United Methodist Church.

Grab your tickets, a cup of fair trade coffee, and enjoy wonderful music while helping others.

Justin Roth.Blending intricate guitar work, smooth vocal melodies and a groove, Justin offers up a rousing potpourri of new acoustic folk. Take an eye off him for a second, and you would swear that there were more instruments on stage.

Opening for Justin Roth is local musician John Statz.  John recently won a MAMA award for "Folk/Americana Album of the Year" for his first album, Dusk Came Slow

A rare combination of instrumental expertise, a soulful and moving singer, powerful poet, and sparkling entertainer, Greenway is one of those difficult-to-categorize performers who have found a home in the modern acoustic genre.

Opening for Greg Greenway is local musician Erin O'Brien.   Erin O'Brien performs story-driven roots-folk music punctuated by innovative rhythms and vocals that morph effortlessly in range and style.

Joe JencksJoe Jencks is the type of musician that will cause you to drop that morning newspaper or pull your car to the side of the road when you hear his songs. The eclectic sound of Joe Jencks & Helena Nash invites inventive and powerful expression of Nash’s harmonies and showcases her soulful lead
singing, creating a space for her luminous spirit and joy of singing to shine through.

Opening for Joe and Helena is local musician D.P. Knudten.  Described as "an outstanding contemporary singer/songwriter in the truest sense of the word,"  D.P. crafts and performs songs written from his own slightly skewed point -of - view. 

Whenever you read or hear about the music of Johnsmith, certain watchwords always come up, regardless of the source. Words like uplifting, or integrity, heart, or soul. His songs and voice go straight to the heart, because that’s where they come from.

Opening for Krista Detor is local musician Ritt Deitz.  Ritt has released 5 CD's and was also nominated in 2007 for 2 separate Madison Area Music Awards: Best Folk/Americana Artist and Best Folk/Americana Album (for AFTER THE MOUNTAINS)

Introducing The Dreamsicles- the Texas based folk/pop duo featuring Tom Prasada-Rao and Cary Cooper. Two voices and a guitar, intricate harmonies with a little cheerleading thrown in, singing love songs for grown ups.

Opening for The Dreamsicles is local musician Michael Brandmeier.  Michael Brandmeier, the LOS ANGELES MUSIC AWARDS MALE SINGER/SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR (Pop Category-2006) is an authentic, AAA/POP artist whose music is starting to be heard around the globe.

Known for her vibrant and open-hearted nature and contagious sense of humor, Ellis’ music is described as joyful, unpretentious modern folk with a slight hint of country inspired by her southern roots.

Opening for Ellis is local musician Kris Adams.  Performing soulful original music - Kris Adams is at once deeply meditative and playfully lighthearted.  Acclaimed by critics and beloved by fellow songwriters.
